Growing up in Los Angeles, he was familiar with the demographic diversity, its cosmopolitan urban areas, and the geography of Los Angeles County. He attended schools in the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD), followed by East Los Angeles College and California State University, Los Angeles, where he earned a bachelor's degree in Social Science. In Education from the University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA), a master's degree in Mathematics from the University of Oregon and a bachelor's degree from Pomona College. Currently, he is proud to serve the immigrant community as Director of External Affairs in the Coalition for Immigrant Human Rights, where he continues to fight for the good fight to pave the way for future immigration legislation by building, maintaining and expanding the diverse work of the coalition through the coordination of the California Roundtable for Immigration Reform and the Los Angeles Action Table.

With limited budgets, he managed to spread the message within Los Angeles County and his strong negotiation skills resulted in an added value of more than 37% for the campaign. He is an avid sports fan and, as a young man, often dreamed of playing soccer for both the UCLA Bruins and the Los Angeles Rams. He formed the Los Angeles Alliance of Ministers and Pastors (LAAMP) in a community effort to encourage the faith community to advocate for local hiring.Prior to this appointment, Dan practiced law for nearly 35 years, most recently as a shareholder at the law firm Leopold, Petrich and Smith (now Ballard Spahr), in Los Angeles, where he specialized in litigation related to the media and entertainment industries. He has completed other graduate studies at California State University, Los Angeles (psychology); Cal Poly Pomona (business administration); and at USC, where he completed all doctoral studies.

It is committed to ensuring that all geographical areas of Los Angeles County are properly represented. He currently leads all media strategies for First 5 LA and the Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health.She has been named one of the 50 best women over 50 in Los Angeles by BTW; Ten Women of Achievement, Chamber of Commerce of Century City (California); and awarded by Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement in Marquis Who's Who. Mayeda is associate director of the Documentary Film Legal Clinic at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) School of Law.
